I would recommend Mrs. Preston as a Math Tutor for any child struggling in middle or High School. Two of my children benefited from her help.  She offers an atmosphere of structure and the one-on-one support that many children need to get through daily homework assignments and prepare for tests.  As a former teacher in Prince Wm. County, she is familiar with the curriculum and methods used.  She worked well with both of my children.  For my son she provided a time and place to stay on task, complete assignments and stay focused.  For my daughter, tutoring allowed her one-on-one time, to ask lots of questions without feeling embarrassed.  Both my children grew in Math proficiency and improved their grades.  My daughter’s success in Math has carried over to other areas of her life.  Her confidence and self esteem grew.  As a single parent, I was very happy that they had another adult in their lives, to give them encouragement when they were struggling, and share their joy when they were successful.

"I began seeing Mrs. Preston my sophomore year of high school for help with geometry.  I continued working with her through my senior year (junior year was Pre IB Algebra II and senior year was IB Math Studies), as well as coming back for sessions during winter break from college for help with statistics.  Every year my grades improved.  Before beginning tutoring with Mrs. Preston my geometry grade was a C+.  By the end of the year, it had changed to a B+.  By my senior year, I held a steady B, finishing with an A by June.  And lastly, I maintained an A all semester through college statistics.  My math test-taking skills greatly improved because of my time with her.  I learned to self-motivate before a test and how to maximize my time with each problem.

Whether you have a child who needs additional help with math or a child who is looking for enrichment in math, I would highly recommend Mrs. Preston. I have a high school senior who has been tutored by Mrs. Preston since 6^th grade, and a 6^th-grader in middle school who has been tutored by Mrs. Preston since 5^th grade.
